"Giclée", a French term that means "to squirt or spray from a nozzle", is a buzzword that generally refers to the use of professional-quality ink-jet printers for printing - and this is precisely what we do.
From the most basic to the most complex orders, Tonal Reproductions follows a systematic process that ensures efficiency and steadfast quality in all our canvas prints. If a particular project requires us to be more thorough, we methodically undergo each phase of production with extra care to make sure that we don’t miss anything. Once we have received your approval and payment, we guarantee a seven-day turnaround for printing your canvas and having it ready for delivery.
Definition of End Result
We begin the printing process with the final result in mind. Once we gain a complete understanding of your expectations for the final outcome, we work backwards from there. For basic orders, we simply enter a few notes into our online system according to your specifications in your order.
For more complex orders, you would have to give us more details about how your prints will be displayed and what you wish to achieve. Such information is essential because what you tell us will be the basis for our professional recommendations.
For instance, we can provide you with tips or advise on the best wrapping type to use, depending on the colour of the wall where the prints are to be hung. Or, we can apply tonal adjustments to your image that would work best in a specific location. If, for example, we are informed that you are sending your giclée canvas prints to North Queensland, Tonal Reproductions can arrange to have protective laminate at the back of the canvases so they can withstand humid weather conditions.
Sending your giclée canvas print to someone as a gift? How about writing a simple note, which we will scan and place at the bottom corner of the image? You could also add a customised signature to your canvas print. There are many things we can suggest to make your giclée print unique and special.
Outline of Work Required, Time Frame, and Cost
Once we have a clear grasp of the end result, we will provide an outline of the work process, which includes a time frame and estimated cost. Most of our suggestions will be implemented free of charge as they are not time-intensive. Additional costs are incurred only when our professional design services get involved and we spend 30 minutes or more on image manipulation to get your desired result.
Preparation of Image for Giclée Printing
Once you are satisfied with our professional recommendations, our team will proceed with the image manipulation process towards your vision. We will adjust tonal value in both greyscale and colour curves, remove imperfections, and perform any other work required on your image.
Creation of Proofs
For every giclée canvas print you order, you will be given access to an online soft proof through our online ordering system. This is a convenient way for you to confirm details such as size, wrapping, and cropping and choose from other available design options that we can apply on your image. You may also confirm shipping details and enter instructions on how quickly you would like to receive your order.
You may request for a hard proof showing a section of your image, which we can send via post. With our hard proofs, you will be able to see exactly how your order will turn out and check colour, tones, and other details on the actual printed surface.
Confirmation of Your Giclée Print Order
Once you have approved our online soft proof (and hard proof if requested) and sent your payment, we will send you an email receipt. This means that we have started the process of printing your order. The email will state the exact date when your order will be ready for shipping. The said date is guaranteed by Tonal Reproductions.

Delivery / Arrangement for Pick-Up
We will send you an email or SMS notification at the exact time when your order has been shipped, including information on which courier was used as well as the tracking number. The email or SMS will also contain the specific date when your giclée canvas print will reach you.
Follow Up / Feedback
Upon reception of your order, we would greatly appreciate it if you can send us some feedback. You will receive an email asking for your comments on how we can further improve our service and our quality, regardless of how many times you have done business with us. Tonal Reproductions will send you a $10 gift voucher once we receive your feedback. The voucher can be used on any giclée canvas print order in the future and is transferrable.
